Fall Into Ventura County
September in Ventura County has a nice trick to it — summer hasn't fully let go, but there's just enough of a shift in the air to make everything feel a little more intentional. Here's what's worth doing this month, and a few home-minded thoughts along the way.
1. Close Out Summer Right on Labor Day Weekend
Labor Day weekend (Monday, September 7) is the unofficial last call for summer — beach days, backyard barbecues, and one more long weekend before the pace of fall sets in. It's also, fittingly, a nice moment to appreciate the work — literal and otherwise — that goes into building a home and a life here.
2. Wander the Ventura Art & Street Painting Festival
On September 12 and 13, top-tier artists take their work outside near the Fisherman's Memorial for the Ventura Art & Street Painting Festival — live street painting, original art vendors, and a chalk area for kids. It's a great reminder of how much creativity and care goes into this community, block by block.

3. Explore ArtWalk Ventura and the Seaside Oddities Expo
The last weekend of the month (September 26–27) brings two great reasons to explore downtown: ArtWalk Ventura, a self-guided tour through galleries, studios, and pop-up spaces across the Westside Cultural District and downtown, and the Seaside Oddities Expo at the Fairgrounds, featuring around 100 vendors of curiosities, antiques, and live performances. Both are a great excuse to see neighborhoods you might not usually wander through.

4. Let the Season Nudge Your Home Priorities
As the light starts changing and the evenings cool off even slightly, a lot of homeowners start noticing things differently — the porch that finally gets used again, the kitchen that could use better light for shorter days, the yard that's ready for a fall refresh. If you've been quietly building a wish list all summer, September is a good time to actually write it down.
