Thinking About Trading SoCal for Something Different?
We get it, we really do. Living here in Southern California is amazing, but let's be honest: it's gotten expensive. Over the past few years, we've had more and more clients asking about selling their homes and making the move somewhere else. Whether it's the cost of living, wanting a change of pace, or chasing new job opportunities, people are ready to explore what else is out there.
The good news? We've helped tons of families make these transitions successfully. We always make sure they get top dollar for their SoCal home and connect them with solid real estate agents in their new cities. Having someone you can rely on in your new state makes all the difference.
So where is everyone heading? Here are the five states we're seeing most of our SoCal clients move to, along with the real talk about what to expect:
Texas

Honestly, Texas makes a lot of sense for SoCal folks. No state income tax? Yes, please! Plus, your money goes so much further there—we're talking actual houses with yards for what you'd pay for a condo here. The job market is booming, especially if you're in tech, energy, or healthcare. Many clients love that they can actually have shorter commutes and bigger living spaces.
But here's what they don't always think about beforehand: there's no state income tax, but property taxes can be pretty steep!
Arizona

Arizona feels like a natural fit since it's still relatively close to home and the weather is sunny year-round. Housing costs are way more reasonable than here, and there are some great communities, especially if you're thinking about retirement. The Phoenix area has been growing like crazy with new job opportunities.
The summer heat situation is real though—we're talking 115+ degrees regularly. And water is becoming a bigger issue every year, which is something to think about long-term. The economy isn't as diverse as what we're used to in California, so depending on your field, job options might be more limited.
Nevada

Nevada is becoming super popular because it's literally next door, no state income tax, and housing is much more affordable. Plus, if you're in entertainment or just love the Vegas scene, there's obviously nowhere quite like it. Lots of outdoor activities too, if you're into hiking and that desert landscape.
The flip side? Utilities can be surprisingly expensive, and unless you're in hospitality, gaming, or a few other industries, the job market can be pretty narrow. And that desert climate isn't for everyone.
Florida

Florida has become huge lately, especially for families and retirees. No state income tax, warm weather, great beaches, and a job market that's really picked up steam in healthcare and tech. If you're done with California taxes, Florida starts looking pretty attractive.
But let's talk about hurricane season—it's a real thing you have to plan for every year. The humidity takes some getting used to if you're coming from our dry heat, and insurance costs have been going up pretty significantly in some areas.
Oregon

Oregon appeals to clients who want that West Coast vibe without the California price tag. Portland's tech scene is solid, the natural beauty is incredible, and if you love outdoor activities, you're in paradise. The climate is way more temperate than what we deal with down here.
The reality check? There is still a state income tax, and while housing is cheaper than SoCal, it's not exactly cheap in places like Portland. And if you're used to our 300+ days of sunshine, the rainy season might take some adjusting to.
